We recently had the opportunity to chat with Marta Szczęsna-Biernatowicz from biernatowicz_family on Instagram, a passionate traveller and a dedicated mother. Marta shared her experiences and insights on travelling with her two children, Alicja and Stanisław. From their recent trip to Wroclaw to their future plans for exploring the Balkans. Join us as we delve into her journey, tips, and cherished moments of family adventures.
1. How many kids do you have and how old are they?
I have two children. Alicja is 6 years old and Stanisław is 4 years old.
2. When and where was the last time you travelled with them?
We went to Wroclaw in May. It is one of the most charming cities in Poland.
3. What was that experience like?
We had a really great time together. We needed it so much. My husband and I both have full-time jobs, so we really wanted to spend the whole days with our children.
3. Where do you plan to go to next?
To the place I like the most – the Balkans.
4. What’s it like travelling with kids in general? Have you adapted anything on your trips to suit them?
Exploring the world with children is different but still fascinating. Travelling with children is not lying on the beach, it’s not partying and sleeping until noon. Travelling with children is showing them the world and other cultures. When the children were younger, we explored a lot during their nap times.
5. What are you kids favourite travelling snacks?
Alicja eats only gluten-free products, e.g. gummies, bars, fruit mousses, while Stanisław eats everything that is sweet. He definitely has a sweet tooth.
6. Do you have any activity essentials for your toddlers on flights/trip?
Crayons and new colouring books are a must!
7. Do you prefer to travel by train, plane or boat?
When it comes to long distance travel with children, it’s not easy to travel by car or by train. All the time they will be asking: “how much longer yet?”That’s why the easiest way is to travel for us is by plane.
8. What’s your ideal family vacation?
My husband and I like to go sightseeing a lot. We like to feel like we are locals. Now it’s more complicated because we have to remember that our children have their own desires. That’s why we plan our trips taking into consideration their needs. It means that we are searching for playgrounds or a good ice-cream shop for them.
9. With young kids, do you prefer early morning flight or late night flights? Why?
Definitely night flights! So far we have had them only to Portugal and Corfu and our children fell asleep immediately.
10. Any travel tips you swear by?
I think the most important thing is spending time with family, not thinking about work and enjoying the moment.
11. Travel gadgets or essential you recommend?
Muslin blankets are my must-have for travelling.
12. Do you have basics you always put in your medicine kit?
In my luggage, I always carry with me a thermometer and cough syrup. Last time I also took my inhaler.
