TRANSPORTATION

How to Get Around Amalfi with Children

The Best Way to Travel in Amalfi

The ferry is our recommended option for families, especially when travelling with children, as it provides a convenient and enjoyable way to see the Amalfi Coast.

Ferries operate as shuttles between the towns and offer stunning views of the coastline from the sea, which is by far the best vantage point. Tickets can be bought on the day of travel, and there are discounted rates for children under 10. Since 2023, ferries run also in winter times according to the weather conditions.

Amalfi Coast by Bus or Car

While buses are an option, the roads are winding and often crowded, which can be difficult for families with children who experience motion sickness. Travelling by car can be problematic due to the winding roads and limited parking, which the Amalfi Coast is known for.

The local bus company, SITA, operates frequently, with tickets available for purchase on the day. Buses typically stop in the centre of each town, making it easy to reach your accommodation.

There is a private bus provider CMS Amalfi Coast which gives a private seat instead of SITA bus which during peak season become crowded and sometimes is difficult to find a seat.

Insider Tips

Visit during the shoulder season

Enjoy exploring Amalfi during the shoulder season when it is less crowded. Sunset times are the best times to head out and explore.

Take advantage of ferries

The ferries are a convenient and scenic way to travel between towns along the coast. Kids under 10 often travel at a discounted rate, making it a budget-friendly option as well.

Stroller accessibility

Most towns are challenging for stroller wheels and tough on the parent doing the pushing! Having a carrier with you is paramount.
