IN A NUTSHELL
Visit Lucerne with Children
Lucerne is a child-friendly destination. Many travellers visit Lucerne with children as there are many interesting places and facilities to check out. Children can move around the almost car-free old town without their parents having to worry. Restaurants and hotels are also attuned to guests with children and offer services tailored accordingly.
All of Lucerne can be visited with children. However, the area above the Old Town – the area of the Musegg Wall is very family-friendly. The wall can be visited free of charge during the summer months and the urban farm Hinter Musegg is hidden behind it. There, children can experience what it is like to live on a farm and get to know the animals too. The mirror labyrinth in the Glacier Garden is also very popular. In summer, Lake Lucerne surely invites you to take a swim. On the Ufschötti, children can play on the sandy beach and swim in the lake. A boat trip on Lake Lucerne is also very popular with children. Boats leave from the square right in front of the railway station, so right in the city centre.
The Best Time to Visit Lucerne with Children
The best time to visit Lucerne is from the beginning of May to the end of September. During this period, visitors can enjoy pleasant temperatures, clear skies, and participate in various outdoor activities such as hiking, boating, and exploring the charming streets of the old town. Additionally, the summer months offer the opportunity to witness traditional Swiss festivals and events that showcase the rich cultural heritage of Lucerne.
How to Get to Lucerne with Children
Lucerne is easily accessible by public transport and by car. From the international airports of Zurich and Basel, the city can be reached by train in just over an hour. Travel times by car are somewhat shorter. It is also easy to travel to Lucerne via Milan. Since the opening of the new Gotthard base tunnel, Lucerne can be reached even faster than before.
