How to Get to The Hague with Kids

If you’re travelling within The Netherlands, then you can get to The Hague more flexibly by car or by a ferry. You can also get there by bus from other Dutch cities; or via a car through the motorways through, Amsterdam, Utrecht, and Rotterdam.

There are two main railway stations that can take you to The Hague. These are Den Haag Centraal and Den Haag HS. Both of these train stations cater for international and local connections.

However, if you’re visiting The Hague from another country, there are flights to Amsterdam Schipol Airport. From there you can get to The Hague by train. You can also get to the city via Rotterdam The Hague Airport with various international connections. You can also get a ferry from the UK to Holland, such as the Eurostar.

How to Get Around The Hague with Kids

You can easily get around the city via public transport including buses or trams. If you’re looking for a more fun adventure, you could also rent a bike. Peace Palace

Your family photo must be taken here when visiting The Hague. Peace Palace is the city’s most photographed building. The International Court of Justice and the Permanent Court of Arbitration are located here. There is also an interactive exhibition on war and peace at the Visitors Centre at this Palace.

Escher Museum

Dedicated to M.C. Escher, the most famous artist in the world who surprised people by his works. The graphic artist M.C. Escher, was terrific at drawing illusory scenes. From water flowing uphill, to birds turning into fish and men walking up and down the same flight of stairs. The exhibition at Escher in the Palace combines unique works of art with biographical material. At the Escher Museum, there is also a MC Cafe, where you can stop for a bite. There is also a museum shop on the ground floor selling books, mugs, T-shirts, cards, jigsaw puzzles, jewellery and posters.

Day 2 in The Hague With Kids

Scheveningen Beaches

For those travelling with toddlers, The Hague has some of the most beautiful sandy beaches. Your little ones will surely enjoy playing in the sand and building sand castles. For older kids, this is a great opportunity to take up paddle boarding or surf boarding.

Scheveningen Beaches are divided into 4:

  • Zwarte Pad – located in the North on the dunes. Here it is quieter than the beahces at the Kurhaus and the Pier.
  • The Noordboulevard – This is the wide beach between the Zwarte Pad and the Pier. It is located on the boulevard with shops, kiosks and the Foodhall Scheveningen.
  • The beach in front of the Kurhaus and De Pier – Full of life and entertainment with many attractions including Legoland and SEA Life.
  • The Middenboulevard – This is the beach south of the Kurhaus. This is a surfing beach with ample space, restaurants and shops.

The Celestial Vault

Located in Kijkduin, the celestial vault is a huge artificial crater where you can gaze at the stars. Kids can also go around and explore ‘Uncle Jan’s’ unusual objects discovered at The Beachcombers Shed.

The Pier Sky View

This is Scheveningen’s Ferris Wheel and it’s another way to enjoy the beach views over Scheveningen. You can also choose the VIP gondola. This gondola has a glass bottom so you can enjoy both views.

Legoland Discovery Centre Scheveningen

Legoland’s Indoor Discovery Centre transports children aged between 3-10 into a world of colour, creativity and, lots of fun through building with lego. Visit Legoland, a miniature LEGO city and experience the rides and workshops there. There is also a very cool 4D cinema. It’s good to note that if you have a pram with you, you can park it here and there is also an elevator.

SEA Life
